-------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: [gluon] Gluon - Warning about serious regressions in releases v2022.1 / v2022.1.1 / v2022.1.2 Date: Sun, 19 Feb 2023 02:06:57 +0100 From: Andreas Ziegler ml@andreas-ziegler.de To: gluon@luebeck.freifunk.net CC: firmware-devel@freifunk.net, wlanware@freifunk.net
Hello,
we want to warn you about some serious bugs in the Gluon releases v2022.1 / v2022.1.1 / v2022.1.2. These bugs affect a number of devices. We recommend not to upgrade the affected devices without having physical access until fixes are implemented.
1) Several devices in target ath79-generic don't boot anymore starting with Gluon release v2022.1.2, some never, some sporadic. (GitHub Issue: https://github.com/freifunk-gluon/gluon/issues/2784) 2) The devices TP-Link TL-WR1043ND v4 and v5 don't have a working 802.11s wireless mesh after upgrading from Gluon releases <= 2021.1.x - a fresh setup works. Entering the Config Mode once resolves this. (GitHub Issue: https://github.com/freifunk-gluon/gluon/issues/2779) 3) The devices in target ipq40xx suffer from losing 802.11s mesh connections after a while (GitHub Issue: https://github.com/freifunk-gluon/gluon/issues/2692)
Targets other than ipq40xx and ath79-generic are currently not known to be affected.
We are sorry for the trouble and we will update you as soon as we have news.
Since these regressions happened in a stable branch, we decided to provide a hotfix release 2022.1.3 [1]. Once hotfixes are merged (and tested), the corresponding issue will be removed from the milestone. When all issues are closed or removed from the milestone, the 2022.1.3 release will happen.
If you know a bit or two about OpenWrt, feel free to support us. Both testing and debugging are appreciated.
