Dear Supporter of Digital Freedom,

We need your help to fix a new bill in Congress so that American communications will be protected from warrantless search.

Congress must vote on whether to reauthorize key NSA surveillance powers in less than 90 days. Thanks to years of investigative journalism and whistleblowing, we know this surveillance collects the communications of countless Americans. Those communications are then stored in a database that government agents search without court approval. These are often called "backdoor searches," because they evade the warrant requirement that is supposed to protect American communications.

The newly-introduced USA Liberty Act improves the situation somewhat, but doesn’t effectively stop these dangerous backdoor searches.

The USA Liberty Act does require government agents to apply for a warrant to access data when they are seeking evidence of a crime. But it does not require government agents to apply for a warrant when searching the data for investigations related to foreign intelligence, and law enforcement agents won’t need to apply for a warrant when doing early searches to determine whether a crime was committed at all. And the new warrant restrictions won’t even apply to the NSA or CIA.

Congress is looking at this issue right now, and negotiations are heated. We know that public pressure on this issue right now can make a big difference. Please add your voice by calling today. Tell your representative that you stand by the Fourth Amendment and that government agents shouldn’t be able to read our communications without a warrant.

Please call now. Visit EndtheBackdoor.com
